The reading room does not need an advertising profile to explain a cut. This static site currently uses no optional analytics, advertising cookies or third-party tracking scripts.
Cookies and local storage are different
Cookies are small pieces of browser data that may be sent with website requests. localStorage is browser storage accessible to scripts on the same origin and is not automatically attached to every request. Privacy rules can apply to both technologies, even when a storage item is not technically a cookie.
The site's own JavaScript does not set cookies. If you choose a preference below, it writes one localStorage entry named velvetrainbanter-consent. The value is either accepted or essential. It records only the button you chose, not your name, email address or contact draft.
Your local preference
Both choices currently leave optional tracking off because none is implemented. “Accept” does not authorise unspecified future tracking. Any new optional purpose would require appropriate information and a new choice.

How long the choice lasts
The preference has no automatic expiry in this code. It remains in that browser profile until you reset it, clear site data or your browser removes it. It does not travel between devices or browser profiles. Private browsing and storage restrictions may prevent persistence.
What stays temporary
The mobile navigation state and scroll-reveal state exist only in the current page session and are not saved. The contact composer holds draft text in page memory. It does not use this preference entry or other site storage to retain your draft. Your browser may separately restore form values or use autofill under your own settings.
Copying and downloading
Copying a draft writes to your device's clipboard after your action. Downloading creates a text file on your device. Those actions do not submit a message or create a website cookie. You decide how to handle the copied text and file.
Browser controls and questions
You can clear cookies and site data using your browser's privacy settings. Blocking localStorage will stop the saved preference from working but does not prevent reading the essays. External links may lead to services with different storage practices.
